My career path is defined by evolution, community connections, and a relentless pursuit of purpose. Growing up in Tacoma, I learned early on the value of hard work, perseverance, and giving back to the community that shaped me. These values have guided my every step, from my first experiences with community connections and mentorships to the leadership positions I’ve held across various fields today.
I owe a large part of my educational and personal growth to the city of Tacoma, where my journey began. My passion for learning about people and helping others found a perfect starting point in the Upward Bound summer programs I participated in. These programs exposed me to educational opportunities, igniting a passion for education that carried me through to my graduation from Evergreen State College. Post secondary education taught me to be resourceful, which would be critical as a foundation in both my career and adult life.
I am honored to be a recipient of both the Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship and the Merle Palmer Scholarship, a transformative opportunity that allowed me to become the first in my family to graduate college and make meaningful connections that continue to influence my work. The experience brought several mentors I've maintained relationships with through out the years and broadened my perspective on how education and equity can reshape communities, increase economic mobility, and expand minds with exposure to new information and opportunities.
My career hasn’t followed a straight path. Instead, it has been defined by strategic and sometimes fateful transitions, each grounded in a commitment to mentorship, access and education, and community building. Whether in administrative, non-profit work, or leadership roles, I have consistently prioritized empowering and supporting others. These transitions have not only allowed me to diversify my skills but also deepen my understanding of how we can elevate each other, professionally and personally.
Mentorship has been a cornerstone of my life and career, deeply influencing my approach to community building. Growing up in the vibrant communities of Tacoma and Seattle, I witnessed firsthand the power of support networks in creating opportunities and fostering growth. These communities shaped me, and now I’m dedicated to giving back by creating pathways for others to succeed.
I believe that mentorship is one of the most effective ways to strengthen communities. Whether through formal mentorship programs or consulting, I’ve seen how offering support, sharing knowledge, and opening doors for others can create lasting change. The communities of Tacoma and Seattle instilled in me a sense of responsibility to uplift those around me, and this mission has guided me throughout my career.
Inspired by this sense of purpose, I founded Sparx of Joy, where my focus is on empowering others through mentorship. By fostering connections and providing access to opportunities, I aim to help individuals realize their full potential and contribute to the collective success of our communities. Together, we can build a more accessible, supportive future for everyone.
At Sparx of Joy, I aim to reflect the same support and encouragement that were so generously given to me. My goal is to help you navigate your journey with clarity and confidence, shining a light on your path to success and fulfillment. I hope to bring a spark of joy to your endeavors and contribute positively to your own journey, just as others have done for me.
